Kate Middleton "didn’t want to be" at Balmoral Castle when the Queen died, but was instead with her children, a royal expert shared. The late Queen Elizabeth died at Balmoral Castle on 8 September 2022 at the age of 96, just a few months after celebrating her Platinum Jubilee, she was the longest-reigning British monarch. While Prince William went to Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland when the Queen passed, his wife, Kate Middleton stayed at home with her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Talking further about this, historian, writer and broadcaster Tessa Dunlop spoke exclusively to OK! and said: “I don’t believe Kate wanted to be there". Tessa added Kate likely wanted to remain close to her children because, at the time, they had recently started at a new school, the co-educational private Lambrook School in Berkshire.
She explained: "The children had just started school, they had just relocated to a different part of England. “She's got three children, she's a proper engaged, hands-on mother with children starting a new school, everyone knows that can be so disruptive for children.
"Kate would have felt it was way more important to be with her children, one of whom one day will be monarch and to explain what was going on and what was breaking in the press and why daddy wasn’t there. "She would have been much more effectively deployed being with her children at that time," Tessa said, adding that Kate is a "very practical woman".
Queen Elizabeth II died while her close family were still en route to Balmoral, her death certificate later confirmed. A fleet of cars, including a Range Rover driven by William, with his uncle, Prince Andrew in the passenger seat and Edward and Sophie
