Kate Middleton and Prince William braved the wet weather as they arrived at the Queen’s third and final royal garden party at Buckingham Palace. While the 96 year old monarch was hosting the event – a tradition that’s been upheld by the Royal Family since the 1860s – Queen Elizabeth was not in attendance after it was revealed earlier this month that she wouldn’t be going to any garden parties this year.
A spokesman said at the time: "Her Majesty the Queen will be represented by other members of the royal family at this year's garden parties, with details on attendance to be confirmed in due course." Arriving today, Wednesday 25 May, Kate, 40, wore a mint green dress with puffed sleeve detailing, paired with a matching hat, as Sophie could be been in a colourful blue ensemble. Meanwhile, husband Prince William, 39, looked dapper in a top hat, double breasted waistcoat and a tailcoat, as Prince Edward looked equally as smart.
Kate and Wills put on a united front with the Earl and Countess of Wessex at the Queen’s second garden party on May 18, where mum-of-three Kate looked pretty in pink. During the third and final soirée, the royals representing the Queen will meet with some of the 8,000 people that have been invited to the coveted party.
Prince Charles, Princess Anne and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, headed the first of the Queen’s garden parties on May 11, and also braved the wet weather to do so.The event marked the first party hosted at Buckingham Palace since the beginning of the pandemic. Prior to the Covid outbreak, Her Majesty the Queen would typically invite around 30,000 guests to look round the gardens of her London-based home, which boasts 40-acres of land.
