Thania Garcia The Latin Recording Academy has announced the nominees for its 24th annual ceremony, with top nominees representing genres from all over the globe. Texas-bred songwriter-producer Édgar Barrera leads the list with 13 nominations, including four nominations in the top general categories. He’s up for record of the year (“La Fórmula” by Maluma and Marc Anthony), album (“De Adentro Pa Afuera” by Camilo) of the year and has two songs nominated for song of the year (“NASA” by Camilo feat.
Alejandro Sanz and “Un X100to” by Grupo Frontera feat. Bad Bunny). Colombian singer-songwriter Camilo scored seven nominations this year, including album of the year for his third studio effort “De Adentro Pa Afuera.” His other nominations span song of the year, best pop vocal album and best pop song, among others.
Kevyn Mauricio Cruz Moreno, the songwriter behind Karol G and Shakira’s “TQG,” and countless other Latin hits, is also up for seven awards this year. The Medellín native appears twice in the album of the year category for his work on Karol’s “Mañana Será Bonito” and Ricky Martin’s “Play.” He is also listed three times in the song of the year category for his work on Karol and Shakira’s “TQG,” and for Shakira’s “Acróstico” and her and Bizarrap’s “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53.” Both Shakira and Karol G are also up for seven awards each.
They go head-to-head for record of the year where Karol has been recognized for “Mientras Me Curo Del Cora” and Shakira is up for “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53.” They share a nomination in song of the year for “TQG,” but Shakira also nominated two other times in that same category. Fuerza Regida’s frontman Jesus Ortiz Paz joins in adding, “Being poor is trash, my mom always told me studying would secure everything but I studied and nothing happened.” The video sees Shakira and members of Fuerza Regida alluding to the struggles and efforts of the working class — at one point their heads appear on silver platters for men in suits.
