A Place In The Sun presenter Jonnie Irwin has revealed he "felt disgusting" after his weight dropped to six stone during cancer treatment. The TV star was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in 2020 but only revealed his condition publicly in late 2022, telling fans he "didn't know" how long he had left. Doctors had initially given the star just six months but more than three years on he is still fighting, and has shared the details of his gruelling battle and how it took a devastating toll on his body, leaving him in constant pain and a shell of his former self.
He recalled looking in the mirror and feeling "shocked" at the way he looked, which left him feeling "disgusting". He told the Sun: "Lying in the hospice, I thought I'd had it. I was on the cusp of death.
I'd never thought about dying, despite the cancer, and Jess and I don't talk about it." "At my weakest point I thought, 'This is it, this is the beginning of the end.' I couldn't eat, I had incredible pain in my back and was just skin and bones." But the 49 year old refused to give up and he decided to fight for his life once he returned home. He started forcing himself out of bed, drinking protein shakes to build up his strength and spending hours in an oxygen tent in a bid to curb any growth of the disease. He also underwent treatment, including chemotherapy.
Now, Jonnie weighs 8st 6lb and goes on days out with his children. Defying the odds, Jonnie decided to go public with his diagnosis last November after being told his cancer had spread to his brain. The Channel 4 star, who was admitted to a hospice, was warned by doctors he wouldn't make his twins' third birthday party two weeks later.
