King Charles III looked to be in great spirits as he donned a kilt to greet scores of people waiting to catch a glimpse of him in Aberdeen. The new King met crowds on Union Street during a visit to Aberdeen Town House to meet families who have settled in Aberdeen from Afghanistan, Syria and Ukraine.
Charles, 73, wore a red tartan kilt and green traditional Scottish socks, paired with a beige tweed waistcoat and matching jacket. He also donned a white shirt and green and red striped tie as he shook hands and chatted with members of the public who were clamouring behind barricades to greet him.
The King met with families that have settled in Aberdeen from Ukraine, Syria and Afghanistan as part of a programme to re-settle refugees in the city. On Monday, the monarch will hear how Aberdeen City Council programmes have supported people as well as meet with local dignitaries including Inna Skvortsova, the lead welcome hub officer and a Ukrainian woman who arrived earlier this year as part of the Ukrainian resettlement programme and now has a full-time role at the council.
Not seen with the King was his wife, Camilla, Queen Consort, 75, however she was recently seen attending the races at the Ascot race course looking fabulous in navy blue. Charles' visit to Aberdeen comes amidst reports that he and Camilla are not looking to make Buckingham Palace their official royal residence anytime soon.
They are, instead, expected to remain at their residence in Clarence House, where they have lived for almost 20 years, having moved there in 2003. Buckingham Palace, which has long been the official residence of the Queen or King of England, is currently undergoing a huge restoration and repair job, said to be at a cost of £369 million,
