‘John Wick’ Director Wants to ‘Take a Swing at’ Making a ‘Star Wars’ Film: ‘I Have a Couple of Takes’

Keanu Reeves has been set to receive the inaugural Lance Reddick Legacy Award at the 51st annual Saturn Awards ceremony, which has itself been dedicated to the memory of Reddick, a friend and former host of the show, who could be seen opposite the John Wick star in the entire franchise, passing away in March at the age of 60.

Valerie Wu Intern Chad Verdi’s VMI Releasing has acquired the opioid crisis drama “Junction,” which is the directorial debut of “How to Make It in America” actor Bryan Greenberg. Greenberg stars in the film along with Josh Peck, Sophia Bush and his wife Jamie Chung. Under VMI releasing, “Junction” is slated for a theatrical and VOD release on Jan.

Chad Stahelski is a filmmaker who finds himself attached to a number of projects. And even though we get excited for every new film his name comes up about, Stahelski always ends up coming back to his baby—“John Wick.” Well, it appears the filmmaker is going to continue spearheading the ‘Wick’ franchise, but his next film is actually going to be something very different.

Leo Barraclough International Features Editor Berlin’s Studio Babelsberg, one of Europe’s largest studio complexes, has revealed that its senior management has been rejigged. Recent movies to shoot at the studios include “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” “John Wick: Chapter 4” and “The Matrix Resurrections.” Founded in 1912, Babelsberg is one of the oldest studios in the world.

As awards season switches up a gear, with the handing out of the Golden Globes and the publication of the Bafta shortlists, one major title stands out in the International categories of both: Justine Triet’s Palme d’Or winning courtroom drama Anatomy of a Fall. It would be a reasonable bet for the Oscar win in any year — if it were actually eligible. In lieu of Triet’s film, which fell well within Academy rules in terms of the amount of English spoken, the French selection panel opted instead for period gourmet drama The Taste of Things to do battle for the country’s honor, a move that is sure to cause a lot of confusion in the coming weeks.

Zack Snyder’s “Rebel Moon” is on Netflix now, and obviously, it’s a divisive film with a 22% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Our review wasn’t pretty blunt about it, too, calling it “lifeless and superficial,” but it’s still fascinating that Netflix went all in on it, and a sequel, “Rebel Moon: The Scargiver,” is coming in April 2024 (read our review here; check out our 2024 blockbuster preview here).

Even though it would appear that Lucasfilm has its ducks in a row regarding the future of “Star Wars” films (even if the studio throws the odd curveball), it wasn’t that long ago when things really felt like absolute chaos. People were hired to develop films, conflicting reports would follow.

The Mandalorian was the first of the Disney Plus Star Wars TV shows. Now it will pioneer more uncharted territory as the first Disney Plus Star Wars show to get its own movie! Leave it to Lucasfilm to throw us a curveball when it comes to “Star Wars” films. Just when we were all set to speculate about the three films currently in development, led by the next film being Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s feature starring Daisy Ridley, Lucasfilm has gone ahead and turned everyone upside down.
