John Oliver Has a Few Words for White People About Black Hair: Leave It Alone

HBO show Last Week Tonight, Oliver set up a trap in which he paid local stations to advertise ‘Oliver’s Venus Veil’ to highlight how easy it is to advertise fake items on television.Austin-based KVUE-TV, Denver’s KMGH-TV and KTVX-TV in Utah all ran the adverts, with the former two now launching investigations following the mishap.“Right now, it’s far too easy to make a ridiculous product that makes outlandish claims and get it onto local TV.

ABC4 Utah’s Surae Chinn, who serves as the station’s chief medical correspondent and also anchors several of its sponsored content bits.

Two major station groups said that they were reviewing their processes for airing sponsored content following a segment that aired on HBO’s Last Week Tonight with in which the show paid to get an interview on the air featuring a spokesperson for a fake “sexual wellness blanket.”

Sponsored content on local news is a problem, and John Oliver has proven why.

Venusinventions.com which features this amazing graphic, that presumably is supposed to illustrate the blanket’s, uh, alleged sexual healing properties. John Oliver then pointed out that many news stations “swap figures between their newsroom and their sponsored content shows,” just like ABC4 Utah’s Surae Chinn, who serves as the station’s chief medical correspondent and also anchors several of its sponsored content bits.

Last Week Tonight host John Oliver began his show by lamenting the current state of Republican politics in the country.

A 10-year-old Israeli girl issued a response to John Oliver after a segment on HBO's "Last Week Tonight" was highly critical of Israel and its role in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
