Jennifer Aniston teases Friends 'murder mystery' film: 'Rachel could go dark!'

Jennifer Aniston may be one of the most successful – and highest paid – actresses in Hollywood, but a huge part of her charm is that she doesn’t take herself too seriously. In fact, we get the impression that when it comes to choosing film roles, Jennifer’s main consideration isn’t whether or not it will win her an Oscar nomination, but how much fun she’ll have on set.

‘Murder Mystery 2’ Review: Adam Sandler And Jennifer Aniston Are Back For More Sleuthing – French Style

The only reason Murder Mystery 2 or even its predecesor exists is as a star vehicle in the most literal sense of the word. The recipe is simple: Sign Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, put them in glamorous locations with lots of action and schtick, and then set it loose on a global platform – Netflix – that can easily sell these kinds of recognizable shenanigans in all points of the world. It worked in 2019, and it works again now, only this time with the action and stunts so ramped up they almost overtake the plot, such as it is. The template and characters were firmly established in the original which had our stars caught up in a murder in which they were suspects, but eventually save the day before the entire cast of characters wind up dead in the process.

“Murder Mystery 2” star admitted in an interview with the international AFP news agency while promoting her new film in Paris“Friends” aired from 1994 to 2004 and has been criticized in recent years for its absence of diversity in casting and storylines.Throughout the 10-year run of the show, the sitcom continued to whitewash New York City and rarely featured a character of color. “Friends” only introduced two recurring characters of color, both of whom were brought on as short-lived love interests for Ross.“There were things that were never intentional and others…well, we should have thought it through, but I don’t think there was a sensitivity like there is now,” Aniston, 54, said about some of the show’s more controversial plot lines that would likely fall prey to “cancel culture” in 2023.“Comedy has evolved — movies have evolved,” the Emmy-winning “Morning Show” star added.

Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler Set the Record Straight on 'Friends' Role (Exclusive)

Adam Sandler's career be like today if things played out differently early on? For example, if he'd gotten cast as Ross on, and thus teamed up with Jennifer Aniston even earlier?Well, as it turns out, that particular branching timeline wasn't really in the cards — despite some recent remarks the pair made while promoting their new film,, that seemingly implied that it was a possibility. The co-stars walked the red carpet at the premiere of their Netflix action comedy on Tuesday, and they each spoke with ET's Nischelle Turner about whether or not Sandler was actually in the running for the role — which ultimately went to David Schwimmer.«Well, that's a very big possibility,» Aniston said, before asking Sandler, «Were you really up to play Ross?»Sandler shook his head no, adding, «I would have!»«No that wasn't real,» Sandler added. «I was just joking.»However, that doesn't mean the pair were joking when talking with Drew Barrymore about wanting to do a movie adaptation of «Talk to the sweatshirted man!» Aniston said, referring to the casually dressed Sandler, when asked about the possibility. «It depends on how everybody responds to this film.»«If they enjoyed themselves and had a good time, Netflix will hopefully just say 'Yup!'» Aniston added enthusiastically.«I mean, honestly, I don't know if that's the one,» Sandler said, referring to the ideal project that he, Aniston and Barrymore could all collaborate on. «But that would be funny, I'm sure, if someone wrote a great script.»However, the real problem is stepping into the shoes of Jack Tripper — an iconic comedy role originally played by John Ritter in the beloved sitcom.«Jack Tripper is the best, by the way.
