St Johnstone must be the ones to get on the front foot first when Tayside rivals Dundee United arrive at McDiarmid Park on Monday afternoon, Jamie Murphy has insisted.
The Perth attacker bemoaned the slow start which ultimately cost Saints in Wednesday’s 3-2 defeat against Hearts.
Murphy, who came off the bench and found the back of the net, wants no repeat of that sluggish start in the opening game of 2023.
Eleventh-placed United make the trip for a 3pm kick-off on the back of a 3-0 win against Ross County.
“It is really about how you perform on the day and the first 20 minutes probably cost us on Wednesday night,” Murphy admitted.
“We need to keep hold of that performance in the last two-thirds of the game and move onto the next one. It was a lesson for us. You can’t afford to come out slow and let your opponent take the lead.”
Murphy continued: “I am sure the boys will be up for the Dundee United game.
“They are a good side. The table doesn’t lie but, playing against them earlier in the season, I thought they were really good.
“It is going to be difficult but we’re at home and, if we can take parts of Wednesday’s performance, hopefully that will be good enough.
“The league is that tight where anyone can beat anyone. You don’t want to think you are safe, this or that. You just want to go out there and take the three points every week.”
Murphy has had to settle for a spot on the bench in recent fixtures and his last start came before the international break. But he did his cause no harm midweek with a tidy finish after being called into the action in the second half.
Of course, the 33-year-old hopes he has caught the attention of manager Callum Davidson.
Murphy told the PA: “I still train hard every day and I feel like the manager

There’s such a sadness in her eyes too. We have so much empathy for Britney Spears AND Jamie Lynn Spears too! They both did not have normal childhood. They both had a lot of dysfunction growing up. They both have had to deal with the nasty side of fame. We wish them both healing – especially together as sisters! Jamie Lynn got very emotional on Fox’s Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test when talking about her life and her very famous sister.

As the Hollywood Foreign Press Association looks to get back on its feet after weathering diversity controversies, it has been buzzed that personal reps wouldn’t allow their clients to get back on stage. If you’re not terminally online, on Twitter, or part of The Cut Industrial Culture Complex, you may not have heard about the current “Nepo Baby” discourse online. The shortest version to not insult those who find it pervasive and obvious, is the New York Mag wrote a “The Year of the Nepo Baby” “exposé” (infographic basically with some quizzes and articles) detailing those famous celebrities that are the children of other well-known celebrities.
