Zack Sharf Digital News Director Will the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Universe ever have a crossover now that Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” trilogy director James Gunn is in charge of DC Studios? “I’m certain that’s more likely now that I’m in charge [at DC],” Gunn recently told Empire Magazine. “Who knows? That’s many years away, though,” Gunn added. “I think we have to establish what we’re doing [at DC] first. I would be lying to say that we haven’t discussed it. But all discussions have been very, very light and fun.” Gunn is starting the press rounds in support of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” which marks his final directorial effort for Marvel. James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ Will Have a ‘Quite Different’ Tone From ‘Guardians,’ Director Says Making a Good Marvel Movie After ‘Endgame’ Is Hard

Zack Sharf Digital News Director James Gunn has written the script for his upcoming “Superman: Legacy” and is currently putting together a casting list and audition material. He’s also about to embark on a worldwide press tour for his final movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.” The writer-director recently told Rolling Stone that his “Superman” movie isn’t going to feel like a “Guardians” movie. “I learned so much from making these movies,” Gunn said about his Marvel franchise. “But it’s not like ‘Superman’ is going to have exactly the same vibe as a ‘Guardians’ movie. It’s actually quite different.” What the tone of Gunn’s “Superman: Legacy” will be remains to be seen. The tentpole is focusing on a younger iteration of the superhero than the one last seen on the big screen played by Henry Cavill. After his “Guardians Vol. 3” press duties are over, Gunn will transition full time to his new gig as the co-head of DC Studios with Peter Safran. “Superman: Legacy” will kick off the duo’s new DC Universe, which will also include films featuring Supergirl and Batman and Robin.

James Gunn Denies New Superman Actor Is in ‘Final Talks’: I’m ‘Prepping’ Audition Material and Haven’t Spoken to a ‘Single Actor About the Role’

Zack Sharf Digital News Director The search for the new Superman actor is not as far along as some social media rumors suggest. “Beyond the Trailer” host Grace Randolph recently took to Twitter to announce Gunn is “very close” to landing an actor to play the eponymous superhero in his upcoming “Superman: Legacy.” Randolph went as far as to claim the role “might even be cast” already or is in “final talks.” Not so fast. Gunn shot down the report and provided an update on his Superman casting process. “Not true,” Gunn replied. “Haven’t had a single talk with a single actor about the role. Just making private lists, prepping material for auditions.” Randolph took Gunn’s rebuttal as an opportunity to reveal her scoop that it was “Percy Jackson” and “Hunters” star Logan Lerman who is Gunny’s top choice for Superman. Gunn also shot down that claim.
