With this year’s series of Dancing on Ice now well and truly in full swing, our favourite celebrities will be pouring their heart and soul into as many hours of gruelling rehearsals as possible to try and win the all-important votes to secure their place in the competition. But one star who knows the pressures of the show well is Loose Women panelist Denise Welch, who famously took part in the series back in 2011, where she was paired with professional skater Matt Evers. Now, 13 years on since that memorable stint on the ice which saw her come in a respectable fifth place overall, Denise has opened up about her time on the show on Matt’s very own podcast, Ice Breakers alongside Frankie Seaman.
In a sneaky peek of the latest episode shared exclusively with OK! ,we learnt how starring on the show became instrumental in Denise’s own sobriety journey - something which massively improved her health and life. During the show, Denise and Matt recalled how a heavy night out had led to her missing the finale of the Dancing on Ice Tour, something that even Matt’s own patented ‘hangover cure’ couldn’t quite solve. Matt explained: “I can remember that we’d had a very fun night out.
Cut to the next day. It possibly was a two show day. And the finale of the evening show, as we’re about to skate out, Denise looked at me and she went ‘I’m not okay! I'm not okay, I'm not okay.’” “We get her offstage.
And next thing I know Denise is on the table in physio hooked up to an EKG machine. With a glass of iced water, just dripping sweat. Oh my god!” Denise then added: “Sharon was convinced this was an ER moment.
