ITV bosses have called time on one of their longest-running TV shows - You've Been Framed - after 33 years.
The show, which first aired with its original host Jeremy Beadle in April 1990, had viewers submit their funny home videos to be paid a fee if it landed on the show. The cancellation comes as people are more likely to upload and view their funny videos on social media through Twitter, TikTok, and Instagram.
ITV has removed the series from its website and a source told The Sun: “The fact that You’ve Been Framed has been shelved is a sad sign of the times. It’s a different world to Jeremy Beadle’s heyday. Why would viewers tune in to a show featuring funny videos when they could see the same sort of thing on the internet?
“Silly clips are hugely popular on social media and the right video can go viral. There’s a thrill in achieving that — even though you don’t earn the £250 fee which You’ve Been Framed paid for contributions.”
Jeremy Beadle joined the show as the host in 1990 before Lisa Riley took over the role as host from Beadle in 1998, writes Birmingham Live. Comedian Harry Hill has narrated the show since 2004 and voiced 341 of the 701 which have aired over the last 33 years..
Harry previously said: “It’s a primeval thing, people falling over. It’s just funny. That’s the main thing, and then the TV clips bring another layer for the grown-ups."
The comedian added: “In 200 years, people will still be laughing about people falling over.” But the comic also revealed a problem producers were having to deal with.
“I don’t get to see the long list but I know there are a lot of fakes — and a lot of sex videos," he said previously.
ITV has also removed the You’ve Been Framed section from their website which also invited people
