Residents have spoken of their horror in the wake of a ‘targeted’ shooting in Leigh.
Police were called to St Helen’s Road to reports of a firearms discharge at 1am this morning on Sunday (September 24).
Officers say the shots came as a retaliation to an attempted assault using a stolen vehicle. It’s believed the shooting was isolated.

Two men, aged 30 and 27 and a 27-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with the incident. They remain in custody for questioning, GMP confirmed.
Forensic and tactical aid officers spent all day combing the street and front gardens for evidence.
Detectives could be seen carrying out door-to-door enquiries while police dogs also searched the area.
Neighbours living on the “quiet” street have now spoken of their shock following the terrifying incident.
Jean Hughes, 82, who lives just outside the cordon, woke to commotion at around 2am.
“I looked out and saw police,” she told the Manchester Evening News. “At 3am, a policeman asked if I’d heard anything.
“I heard a gun was involved. It’s a nice street; it’s shocking. You usually only get people speeding.”
One resident told the M.E.N she heard 'vehicles screeching' in the early hours but was 'shocked' to hear of the shooting.
“I heard a party and some vehicles last night,” the woman, who did not wish to give her name, said.
“There was a party going on at about 9pm and I heard vehicles screeching around in the middle of the night.
““[The cars] are something we hear a lot from Pennington Flash, so we didn’t think much of it.
“We’re not used to hearing [of gun crime] around here, especially from this neighbourhood. You don’t hear of stuff like that
