People living on a ‘peaceful’ street in Salford first became aware something was wrong on Thursday night when police descended on woodland just yards from their homes.
The following day they were told the unimaginable. Human remains had been discovered close to an alleyway normally used by their children walking home from school.
Emergency services were initially called to Kersal Wetlands at around 5.50pm on Thursday to reports of an 'unknown item' wrapped in plastic, near Radford Street.

The horrific discovery was today confirmed to be a ‘torso wrapped in plastic'. A major murder investigation has now been launched, with enquiries continuing to establish who the victim was and trace their next of kin. A search is continuing in the local area and nearby woodland for other potential body parts.

One mum, whose house on Great Clowes Street is located within the police cordon and just a stone’s throw from where the remains were discovered, said she was first told there were ‘loads of police’ in the area at around 8pm last night. Her husband later told her he had seen a forensic tent.
“It is scary, it really is. Of course it's very shocking but unfortunately we’re a bit immune to seeing police around,” she said.
Her neighbour, who has lived in the area her entire life, added: “Kids could have come across it. It’s very scary.”
