Issa Rae needs to schedule downtime into her calendar otherwise she won't ever stop working. The actress became exhausted in 2021 when she had to fit in finishing the final season of Insecure, executive producing the first season of Rap Sh!t, filming an episode of the AppleTV+ anthology series Roar, running her media company HOORAE, and getting married to Louis Diame. In an interview with TODAY's digital magazine, Issa revealed that the experience made her actively carve out time for rest in her schedule.
"Last year taught me that the balance needs to be planned in advance for me, because, otherwise, I would just work, work, work, work, work," she said. "Even after Insecure, like a dummy, I did an episode of Roar. Then I flew to France (for the wedding), and I was like, 'Why did I need to do that? I could have taken that two weeks in between to chill and prepare and do all these things?' But I chose to do this episode.
It was a great experience. . .
but I know myself. I know how frustrated and/or tired I can get in some cases, and I'm not doing my best when I'm like that. " Issa makes sure her team knows about her time off so they don't keep tempting her to fill up her calendar with projects.
"Because people will try you," she explained. "They'll be like, 'Oh, this is coming up, are you sure? There's this much money here, are you sure?'" The 37-year-old finally took time for herself in January after the Insecure finale aired. She went travelling and "finally got a chance to just chill and think", but admitted that not working for all of the month was difficult for her.

Rap Sh!t,” signed a multiyear overall deal with WarnerMedia, the parent of HBO, in 2021, giving the media company exclusive rights to Rae’s small-screen projects developed through her media company, Hoorae.Despite the “Insecure” star’s big plans to expand her company, she noted that she has no plans to enter into Web3.“I appreciate tangible things and there has been, in my mind, with these specific platforms, it does seem like there’s an effort to make us appreciate the intangible,” she said. “There’s just so much that I just don’t know enough about and don’t frankly care enough about to pursue.”Although Rae admitted she felt vulnerable as she doesn’t own the rights to any of the content created through her company or WarnerMedia, she explained that the shift in ownership hasn’t prevented her involvement in the marketing of her projects.“With this particular latest show that we did with HBO Max, we’re actually very hands-on in terms of the marketing,” Rae said.

Selome Hailu The process behind “Seduce & Scheme” was heavy on the scheming. “We snuck in the writers room and the studio when they were having the sessions for the soundtrack. We wasn’t even supposed to be in there!” says KaMillion, who plays Mia in the Issa Rae-created comedy series “Rap Sh!t” on HBO Max. The series follows Mia and Shawna (Aida Osman), friends from high school who reunite years down the line and form a rap duo that quickly skyrockets to notoriety — at least on the internet. To create the original songs that Shawna and Mia perform, as well as the soundtrack that pays major homage to the show’s Miami setting, Rae’s music company Raedio held “camps” where different rappers and songwriters came together to collaborate.

Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief The titles of Fukada Koji’s films almost drip with bitter irony. “Sayonara” seemed to be a farewell to human actors. Instead of being harmonious, Cannes Un Certain Regard jury prize-winner “Harmonium” was pitch black and steeped in quiet violence. Fukada’s latest, Venice Film Festival competition title carries the moniker “Love Life.” But its subject matter is loneliness. The story starts out on familiar lines, involving a married couple where suddenly the ex-husband of the wife appears, potentially setting up the melodrama of a triangular relationship. But in Fukada’s hands things are colder and more painful. The newcomer is burdensome, deaf and homeless. His arrival triggers, not love, but fragmentation, individualism and loneliness.
