Sadly, she was killed in a traffic accident age 49 in 1971 shortly before the actress secured the role that would shoot her to stardom. The Daily Star reports Helen said in a previous interview: "The one person I really wanted to tell when I got the part of Gail was my mother. "She would have been so thrilled.
More excited than me. She'd been there all the way - at the dance classes, holding my hand before the competitions, putting on her best suit to take me to London for auditions. "But when I finally made it, she wasn't there to share it with me.
I'd never missed her more." Helen has been married twice, originally to the late Michael Angelis, who narrated Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends. The couple married in 1991, however, their marriage was rocked four years later after he admitted to having an affair. While Helen found it in herself to forgive Michael, she later divorced him in 2001 when it was revealed that the star had been involved in another affair.
