A new Christmas light trail has arrived at Heaton Park for the festive season.
The makers of the hugely popular Dunham Massey event have created Christmas at Heaton Park, which launched on Friday night and will run throughout December. We were among the first to sample the new trail, which takes you on a walk around the lake, which clearly received the memo to be frozen over and glistening for opening night.
You start off in the Food Village where there are stalls selling a range of snacks alongside a fairground with children's rides including traditional swings, a helter skelter and dodgems.

There was quite a wait for the food, though, and what eventually arrived wasn't the best, especially considering the prices - £9.95 for a cheese pizza and £5.95 for fries with gravy. The Doughnut & Cookie Cabin had sold out of hot chocolate and the queue for the other drinks bar was a bit too long so we decided to leave those.
Once you start the trail the Lakeside Cafe kiosk is open, however, and we managed to get hot chocolates from a tipi bar further round where they also do marshmallow toasting.
Anyone who's been to Lightopia events previously held at the park will remember how they made use of the lake for a projection show. This time it's a Lake of Stars Lights Show with a central glowing 'H' which changes colour.
There's lots more to see along the trail, including sparkling Pink Blossom and Spiral Trees, Neon Strings, giant Eaton Stars and more.
