I tried the Shokz OpenRun Pro headphones and they’re a game changer for running the marathon

Whether you’re diligently training for this year’s marathon season or are just starting to enjoy more outdoor exercise now the weather has improved, there’s one accessory that we can’t get through a workout without – headphones. With marathon season right around the corner and the London Marathon happening on 21 April, if you’re planning on hitting the road for the impressive challenge, you’re going to need some great headphones to do it.
There’s nothing better than turning up your music to help keep you motivated, but it’s also important to stay safe and aware of your surroundings, especially when pounding the pavement or running in large crowds. Whilst normal headphones or earbuds will usually cancel or drown out all surrounding noise, I tried out the Shokz OpenRun Pro headphones, £159.95 here, which promise to maintain peripheral noise and awareness of your surroundings whilst still being loud enough to keep your energy levels high.
I will preface this by saying that I am in no way training for a marathon. I’m more of a jog for the bus than a 26 mile run kind of gal, but in the interests of testing them out – and improving my cardio levels – I strapped on the Shokzh headphones and took them for a spin.
After charging them up for several hours, I popped them over my head where they immediately settled in front of my ears, rather than in or on them like typical headphones or earbuds. Despite having a round-the-head strap, they’re almost impossible to feel when you’re wearing them thanks to how lightweight and well-positioned they are, making them surprisingly comfy.
