However, I used to at least try to vary my outfits, experiment with more trends, and even put on clothes that I was not completely comfortable with but that allowed me to check that box of varying clothes and make every day seem different.Even when I became a mom, I still felt self-imposed pressure to always do everything, and arrive at each event with a very different look.
But for three years –starting during the pandemic and all those months where I did not leave the house and comfortable clothes were the new black dress– I have started dressing practically the same every day.Dressing “practically the same” does not necessarily mean repeating outfits a lot, although conscious and sustainable consumption and investing in fewer but better quality clothes is also another mantra for me.
What I mean is creating a kind of “daily uniform,” with clothes that are quite similar in colors, fabrics, and patterns, which helps lighten what had become a mental load for me.Constantly making daily decisions can invisibly drain our energy, and in my case, trying to convince myself that I could experiment with clothes (and feel comfortable at the same time) was becoming stressful.
With my “uniform,” I know that I will feel good without headaches every morning when choosing my outfit.Obviously for many people, playing with clothes and creating different looks every day gives them a lot of energy, but not in my case.
