Most people have shopped at Aldi or Lidl at some point and both have soared in popularity during the cost of living crisis.
They've long been rivals in the supermarket world, but it's only when you do a like-for-like shop at both that you realise just how similar they are.
It's no coincidence that many of their products look the same - and so many are identical on price too. When one cuts a penny off a product, you usually find it's not long before the other follows suit.
With data showing shoppers are continuing to switch to the retailers, I decided to do the exact same shop at both to see which is cheapest.

In total I bought 31 products most commonly bought by shoppers including essentials such as milk, bread, eggs, meat, fruit, veg and some cleaning and household products.
I know from our weekly price comparison, which has been tracking the cost of the same eight items in the big six supermarkets for 18 months now, just how close the retailers are on price.
For the vast majority of that time, it's been Lidl that has come out on top as the cheapest retailer for the shopping basket. Although it's usually just pennies apart from Aldi, which disputes the findings, saying the quality and weight of products aren't all like-for-like.
It says that comparisons of a larger number of products, like those regularly carried out by Which?, show that Aldi is routinely the lowest-priced supermarket.
That argument appears to be backed up by this shop, which sees Aldi cheapest overall, with a bill of £46.24.
Two of the products - eggs and toilet rolls - made it 24p cheaper than Lidl's £46.48.
