Actor Hugh Grant, 62, and wife Anna Eberstein, 43, have been praised by fans after donating £10,000 to a fundraiser supporting elderly, vulnerable and disabled people who are struggling during the cost-of-living crisis. The GoFundMe appeal was set up by non-profit community organisation Depher, which provides food deliveries, gas and electricity top-ups and other help to people across the UK. And James Anderson, founder of Depher, told the PA news agency that the couple have donated £55,000 since October 2021 to the organisation, describing it as “humbling and heavenly".
After the couple’s donation was revealed to the public, many people took to social media to praise that outspoken actor. “I wonder how many millionaires will donate their £55,000 cut in tax?? At least some people are setting a good example," wrote one such individual referring to the Paddington 2 actor's generosity. Another wrote: “Hugh is beyond a star.
He’s amazing.” “As if I couldn't love @HackedOffHugh any more. A true gentleman donating to such a worthy cause. I salute you sir,” added a third.
Promoting the fundraiser on Twitter, James wrote: “A family will now eat this weekend, & beyond. #SpiderMan in the picture needs his energy, so does his mother. "A £50 top-up on the Gas & Electricity will also keep them out of debt and danger.
@HackedOffHugh and Anna Grant, thank you, and many more [prayer and heart emojis].” To which one Twitter user replied: “Is that @HackedOffHugh’s second mega donation? What a gent." “I have just donated a little and retweeted. You are doing amazing things James," they went on. James went on to clarify that it was actually the actor’s fifth big donation to the fundraiser.
