I have just spent a week at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. I saw no sunlight from Monday around noon to Thursday. But I did see some movies, or at least part of them. It was of course CinemaCon week, or as I like to call it, ‘the unofficial start to Oscar season’. Many pundits might rather give the upcoming Cannes Film Festival with that kind of distinction, but in recent times this smoke-filled exhibitors extravaganza looks to be the starting gun, if you go by what the studios are dropping footage of between all the popcorn movies entertainment theatre owners really care about.

Another day, another slay from Zendaya! The actress blessed Us with a fierce fashion statement at the CinemaCon Big Screen Achievement Awards in Las Vegas on Thursday, April 27.

CinemaCon 2023 officially drew to a close this evening in Las Vegas, with NATO handing out its Big Screen Achievement Awards to such recipients as Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas, Zendaya, Chris Meledandri and Melissa McCarthy. The evening’s sentiment continued the running theme of the four-day conference: celebrating and preserving the theatrical experience.

The latest Hunger Games, set decades before the original, is grittier and “more authentic” in some ways but doesn’t waver from existential questions, as relevant now as they were when the first films came out, said the director and producer of Ballads of Songbirds And Snakes.

“Nothing in any future I see can replace the communal theatrical experience,” emphasized Lionsgate Motion Picture Chair Adam Fogelson at the top of Lionsgate CinemaCon presentation, which closed out the 2023 Las Vegas confab this afternoon.

CinemaCon attendees got a big surprise on Thursday (April 27) when Leonardo DiCaprio made an expected appearance!

Rihanna surprised the crowd during the Paramount Pictures presentation at the 2023 CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Thursday.The 35-year-old mommy-to-be took the stage to reveal that she will star as Smurfette in an upcoming and untitled movie. Aside from lending her voice, the Fenty Beauty mogul also shared that she is  writing and producing original music for the film and will serve as the project's musical producer.Showing off her humor, the singer joked that she tried to get the role of Papa Smurf but the part didn't work out for her. Rihanna — who is expecting baby number two with A$AP Rocky — also noted that she hopes the role gives her some cool points with her kids in the future.Although her appearance was brief, Rihanna made a statement as she showed off her baby bump in a denim dress for the occasion.

The rebooted franchise from Universal Pictures and Blumhouse debuted its first trailer to the annual convention of movie theater owners on Wednesday. The new saga is led by Tony and Grammy award winner Leslie Odom Jr. (“Hamilton”) and Ellen Burstyn, who reprises the role of Chris MacNeil from the 1973 original directed by William Friedken. The first “Exorcist” was a critical and commercial phenomenon, following two priests trying to rid an innocent girl of a nasty demonic possession.

Christopher Nolan kicked off Universal’s CinemaCon presentation this afternoon in Las Vegas, taking the stage to talk about his upcoming thriller Oppenheimer which releases in July. Cillian Murphy stars as the titular J Robert Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicist whose work on the Manhattan Project led to the creation of the atomic bomb.
