HBO’s House of the Dragon might be shorter than fans are expecting.
According to a new report from Deadline, the outlet suggests that the upcoming season could only be 8 episodes instead of the presumed 10 episodes that the first season had.

The outlet added that the shortened season is a new plan that the network is implementing as it plans for a third season of the hit fantasy series.

Deadline’s sources are also reporting that the creators of House of the Dragon had initially planned for the series to span three or four seasons, but plans have changed a bit as showrunner Ryan Condal and executive producer George R.R. Martin recently took a step back during the development of Season 2 to evaluate the overall narrative flow of the show, determine how to divide the stories across seasons, and decide which battles to include and when.
The result was HBO considering greenlighting the third season as it’s being mapped out, and the network is thinking long-term instead of focusing solely on the current season.
Ryan and George are still discussing the optimal number of seasons needed to tell the full story.
Just recently, it was confirmed that more actual dragons are coming in the new season.
