A devastated man has opened up about how his life was "completely shattered in a moment" following the tragic loss of his pregnant partner and their unborn daughter in an horrific car accident. Calvin Buckley has spoken out about his heartache after the devastating loss of Frankie Jules-Hough and their baby girl Neeve, who were killed in a shocking collision on the M66.
Reckless driver Adil Iqbal, hailing from Accrington, was caught on camera swerving wildly between lanes at a speed of 123mph before losing control and crashing into Frankie's stationary vehicle. The beloved Hollyoaks actress had stopped on the hard shoulder due to a flat tyre when the deadly crash took place on 13 May last year.
The tragic incident led to the death of 38 year old Frankie and her unborn child a few days later due to the injuries they sustained.
During the fatal event, Frankie's two sons and nephew, who were in the car at the time of the collision, also suffered injuries. A grief-stricken Calvin is now determined to raise awareness about the dangers of using mobile phones while driving and supports the newly launched 'Touch Screen' campaign that kicked off on 7 May.
Calvin, hailing from Oldham, shared his heart-wrenching story: "Two people lost their lives as a result of someone using their phone while driving, and to put it simply my life was destroyed. I lost my partner and the chance to become a father, but it has also affected many other people and the effects of this incident will stay with us for the rest of our lives." He continued, "My life was completely shattered in a moment and now I'm trying to rebuild my life and make something positive out of it by supporting this campaign and the vision zero strategy." Every week it seems there are large numbers of indie and specialty releases vying for attention, impossible to do them all, so when the option of reviewing Nowhere Special was placed in front of me I resisted at first after discovering it actually premiered at the 2020 Venice Film Festival. That’s right, four years ago. I had to wonder what could possibly be good about a film delayed for that long in terms of getting a U.S. release date? Finally caving in to the persistent requests by the distributor and its passionate PR team, I decided to check it out. What I discovered was not that this was some sort of troubled film, not even close. Instead I found a spare but moving drama, powered by a remarkable lead performance, that is all about life and death and all things inbetween. At its heart it is also an inspiring story of dedicated parent and child, how we face the uncertain future, and what we leave behind. Nowhere Special is something special indeed. If you aren’t shedding well-earned tears by the end of this film you simply are not human.
