Hogwarts Legacy has countless challenges and side-quests to complete alongside its main story. Fellow witches and wizards throughout Hogwarts and the wider Wizarding World are in need of your magical expertise to help find items, locations, and loved ones.
Many side-quests are relatively short and take just minutes to complete, but others are surprisingly in-depth. One such quest is The Tale of Rowland Oakes.
This particular side-quest is fairly lengthy and is full of exploration and combat. Here, we guide players through the entire Tale of Rowland Oakes side-quest – including how to follow his map.

To unlock this quest, players must have completed The Helm of Urtkot main story quest. After this, Hufflepuff student Adelaide Oakes will appear in the Transfiguration Courtyard with a quest for you.
She will ask the player to search for her uncle Rowland Oakes, who has been doing business with Ranrok’s goblins. Rowland’s letters to Adelaide have stopped, and she suspects he is in danger.
First, she wants you to search for a camp where Rowland was last seen. The camp will be marked on your map, and once you reach it you will have to defeat several goblins.

After you’ve cleared the camp, cast Revelio to find Rowland’s journal and a map. The journal is resting on the ground while the map is on top of a nearby crate.
Rowland’s hand-drawn map shows several landmarks – a rock formation, a crooked tree, and a ruined tower – along a river that lead to a ruined castle. The player will have to follow the clues to find exactly where Rowland has been taken.
