Hocus Pocus 2 set a record in Nielsen’s weekly streaming ratings, drawing more than 2.7 billion minutes of streaming from September 26 to October 2.
The Disney sequel premiered on September 30, meaning only its first weekend counted toward the total. Netflix’s Dahmer took the top spot easily with almost 4.4 billion minutes of streaming.
Hocus Pocus 2, which stars Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker, easily beat the previous streaming movie mark set by Disney’s Oscar-winning animated feature Encanto. It had 2.2 billion minutes of viewing from December 27, 2021, through January 2, 2022.
The audience for Hocus Pocus 2, a followup to the 1993 original movie, was pretty widely spread out, with the 2-to-11, 18-to-34 and 35-to-49-year-old age groups each accounting for one-quarter of viewing, according to Nielsen. About 21% of viewing came in Hispanic homes.
With the sequel arriving, the original Hocus Pocus also charted, collecting 774 million minutes of streaming on Disney+, good for seventh place.
Nielsen measures streaming via a TV screen for titles on Disney+, Hulu, Apple TV+, Prime Video, HBO Max and Netflix, reporting numbers after nearly a month’s delay.
Dahmer, which has already joined the Netflix pantheon globally, is now the No. 7 title in the U.S. since Nielsen began tracking streaming in 2020.
In the ongoing fantasy horserace, Prime Video’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power led HBO Max’s House of The Dragon, 966 million minutes to 907 million.

Joe Otterson TV Reporter Peacock has shared a first look at Joe Pesci in Pete Davidson’s semi-autobiographical comedy series “Bupkis.” It was first reported that Pesci would be joining the series in August. He stars alongside Davidson as well as Edie Falco. The half-hour show is described as “a heightened, fictionalized version of Pete Davidson’s real life.” Pesci stars as Davidson’s grandfather, while Falco will play his mother. It was ordered to series at Peacock in April and is currently in production. “Bupkis” marks just the second regular television role of Pesci’s career. Prior to this, he starred in the short-lived NBC series “Half Nelson” in 1985. Pesci is best known for his film career, in particular his collaborations with Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro. The trio have worked together on seminal films like “Raging Bull,” “Goodfellas,” “Casino,” and “The Irishman.” Pesci won the Academy Award for best supporting actor for his work in “Goodfellas” and was nominated in the same category for both “Raging Bull” and “The Irishman.” Pesci is also known for his roles in films like “My Cousin Vinny,” the “Lethal Weapon” franchise, the first two “Home Alone” films and “JFK.”

From Sept. 12-18, the first four episodes of “The Rings of Power” hit 988 million minutes viewed on Prime Video, while the first five of “House of the Dragon” landed 960 million minutes viewed on HBO Max. Meanwhile, “Cobra Kai” — which currently has five seasons and 50 episodes available for streaming on Netflix — was watched for 1.9 million minutes when counting viewership across the entire series, per Nielsen.
