"Hero" pub staff have been praised for the speedy and calm actions that may have saved the life of a grandmother.
Last Sunday, Sally Gowland was enjoying lunch with her mum Alaine and son Harry at their local boozer when tragedy struck.
Suddenly 71-year-old Alaine, who suffers from Parkinson’s, started choking on her food, and Sally was unable to get her mum’s throat cleared.
Sally revealed: “Because of her Parkinson’s she gets food stuck quite often and I can usually help but for whatever reason I just couldn’t get it out. I got her out of her chair and within this time she went blue.
“There was a girl called Hannah Eke who works there, she was extremely calm and helpful, she called an ambulance and relayed the directions of how to do CPR.
“My mum was just completely blue and lifeless, it was just awful to see, she felt like a rag doll when we got her on the floor and started CPR.
“It was awful but the staff were incredible.”
An ambulance quickly arrived at the Sun Inn in Morpeth and took Alaine to the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, in Cramlington.
There she spent two days, before being sent to Wansbeck Hospital to recover. She’s now getting better, although Sally says she has little memory of what happened, report Chronicle Live.
Although she’s still feeling “numb” after the terrifying incident, Sally, 38, said she couldn’t be more grateful for the help of staff and customers at the pub, as she believes that without them, her mum might not have survived.
She said: “If it wasn’t for the quick reactions of people in the Sun Inn getting the ambulance to us, the help of Phillipa, the manager, and Hannah who took control of the conversation with the ambulance staff over the phone, I think it could have been
