A family has been left heartbroken after finding their horse was hit by a train in Denton. Monty was found dead by the tracks behind Dane Bank 11 days after a broken fence was reported to Network Rail due to concerns about the safety of animals living on the field.
Around 15 people had to drag the seven-year-old horse's body through several fields after it was discovered on Sunday (February 18). But the late horse's owners say they still haven't heard back from Network Rail, who they hold responsible for not fixing the fence.
Network Rail has said it is 'very sorry' to hear about the 'tragic death' of the horse and is 'thoroughly investigating' the circumstances surrounding the 'heartbreaking incident'. The local community is now raising funds to add an extra layer of protection around the field.

Monty was missing from the field when the other horses were found all gathered together, which Mandy says was 'unusual'. His body was found down an embankment at around midday with his side 'ripped open' and a trail of blood leading back to the railway tracks.
A group of around 15 people removed his heavy body, dragging it through the neighbouring fields for around two hours. They asked Network Rail for help to remove the body on the day but were later warned they could be prosecuted for trespassing on the land.
The community has now raised around £1,000 to put an extra layer of protection around the
