The goalkeeper arrived at Manchester United in the summer as second choice goalkeeper. He’ll have known Andre Onana would be first choice but he might have expected to get an outing before mid-January. He might have expected an outing in an early Carabao Cup tie or an FA Cup trip to third tier opponents. He might have expected to play against Tottenham given Onana’s Cameroon play their opening Africa Cup of Nations match on Monday.
But instead talks between Cameroon, United and Onana meant the keeper lined up for the Reds at Old Trafford. Bayindir will have to wait a bit longer.

Even then, given Erik ten Hag’s loyalty to Onana, the Turkey international’s debut might be sooner than the manager envisaged. Onana had retired from international football when United signed him from Inter Milan in the summer. A U-turn wouldn’t have formed part of the plan even if the possibility was discussed during transfer negotiations.
Onana left the 2022 World Cup after a bust up with national team coach Rigobert Song. The two disagreed on playing styles and the argument led to Onana’s exile.
'The day of the game with Serbia I told Onana that I needed to talk to him and he started crying,' Song said in a video clip which appeared to have been leaked of him explaining the situation.
The two then didn't speak and Onana flew home. Cameroon were knocked out in the group stage. The keeper responded with a statement of his own.
