Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, The Duchess of Sussex, are expected to leave the UK “as soon as they can” in order to return to their two children, Archie and Lilibet, after almost three weeks away from them. The Sussexes were reported at the weekend to be planning on flying home as soon as they were able, but as of Tuesday morning, they were still in the UK, having stayed at Windsor following The Queen ’s funeral, a source told the Times.
The royal couple were originally only supposed to be in the UK for a few days when they arrived here earlier this month, as they were scheduled to take part in several high profile engagements including the One Young World summit in Manchester and the WellChild Awards in London. However during their stay, the Queen was sadly taken ill before the heartbreaking news came that she had died at the age of 96, prompting a global outpouring of grief, but also a poignant moment of mourning for Prince Harry and the royal family as they said goodbye to the beloved monarch.
In the days since the death was announced, the young couple took comfort from one another as they grieved both privately and in the public eye at various official events in the run up to Monday’s funeral. On several occasions Meghan and Harry were seen holding each others hands tightly in a show of solidarity, while on several more, both The Duke and Duchess were seen to shed a tear for the Queen, who was more than just a sovereign to Harry, but a beloved Grandmother too.
