Harry and Meghan 'never wanted to appear on Buckingham Palace balcony', pal says

The Queen has met her great-granddaughter Lilibet for the first time in a private meeting as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to the UK for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have introduced their little girl to the Queen - with the monarch's childhood nickname being the inspiration for Lilibet's name.The pair are taking part in the Service of Thanksgiving for the Queen's 70 years on the throne, in their first appearance with the royal family after stepping down as working members of the family back in 2020. A royal commentator has said that Meghan and Harry are hoping to be as “low-profile as possible” during their trip to the UK for The Platinum Jubilee - despite their appearance at the event being a significant occasion on its own.

The Queen has finally met her great-granddaughter Lilibet for the first time, two days before her birthday, as her mum and dad, Prince Harry and Meghan reunited with the Royal Family on Jubilee weekend.

And while they watched the Trooping the Colour parade from the Horse Guards Parade, they later enjoyed celebrations with the rest of the family during lunch, MailOnline has claimed.The pair, who now live Stateside, are set to make their first joint royal engagement in two years at Friday's Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been spotted for the first time since arriving in the UK for the Queen's Jubilee celebrations, which are taking place up and down the country this weekend. The Duchess of Sussex, 40, was seen entertaining some of the youngest members of the Royal family, including Savannah Phillips and Mia Tindall, ahead of Thursday afternoon's flypast. Meghan could be seen through one of the windows of the Major General's Office, as she animatedly greeted the children, making faces and beaming at them.

Queen Elizabeth will begin her Platinum Jubilee celebrations on Thursday morning with the Trooping the Colour parade to mark her 96th birthday, an annual event which has been postponed the last two years due to the coronavirus.  Elizabeth became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee earlier this year following 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom, Realms and the Commonwealth.  After a grand military display including horses, carriages, a flypast from the Royal Air Force and hundreds of musicians parading down The Mall to Horse Guard’s Palace, the queen is expected to appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony to greet the public.  Historically, the British monarch has taken the salute to her troops, known as the Household Division on Horse Guards Parade.  Queen Elizabeth II is photographed at Sandringham House to mark the start of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee Year, on February 2, 2022 in Sandringham, Norfolk. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have arrived in the UK ahead of the Queen’s highly anticipated Platinum Jubilee celebrations, according to reports. Meghan, 40, hasn’t been in the UK since leaving her husband’s home-country in early 2020, while Harry’s first time back on British soil was last year for his late grandfather’s Prince Philip’s funeral.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are said to have been granted specialist police protection during their trip to the UK for the Queen’s jubilee. The pair are set to arrive in England today, Wednesday June 1, with almost-three year old son Archie, and 11 month old Lilibet.This will be Lilibet’s first time on British soil, meaning she's never met her grandfather Prince Charles, or Her Majesty The Queen.

Despite stepping away from royal duties, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expected to join the Queen for a Platinum Jubilee service at St Paul's Cathedral on June 3. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are set to fly over from their home in California with their two children, Archie, three, and Lilibet, eleven months, to attend the celebrations, marking the first time they have travelled to the UK as a family of four.
