OK! magazine that the pair’s strong relationship is a sharp contrast to the one the Prince of Wales had with his father King Charles and his mother, the late Princess Diana.“[Middleton has] given William everything he didn’t have with Charles and Diana,” the BBC correspondent said. She added that Middleton has provided William with a “loving, deep partnership, founded on friendship, passion, and mutual respect, plus a broader, settled and happy relationship with his in-laws.”The couple married in April 2011 at Westminster Abbey, but have known each other since 2001.When they tied the knot, William gained mother-in-law, Carole, and father-in-law, Michael Middleton.According to Bond, they “welcomed William into their home and treated him like one of the family. He can relax with them, trust them, and be himself in a way he can do with only a very few others.”William and the mother of three have now known each other longer than he has lived with Diana — who died in 1997 when he was 15 years old. However, William shares much of his mother’s same devotion to charitable causes like homelessness. His mother’s influence is still prevalent in the way he carries himself in public.

Not So Funny: Why the Emmy Comedy Categories Are Losing Nominees This Year

Actor in a Drama Series increased from 94 last year to 102 this year, and Emmy rules say that gender-divided categories  should have parity in the number of nominees, which will keep the guest actress category at six.Overall, more than half the categories that are shrinking in size this year are specifically devoted to comedy – and others, including Character Voice-Over Performance and Sound Editing and Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half Hour) and Animation, are dominated by comedic shows.Other categories that are slated to shrink include Outstanding Reality Competition Program and Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program, both of which are dropping from six nomination slots to five, as well as Main Title Design, Music Supervision and Original Music and Lyrics.Only a handful of categories are in line to grow in size, including Variety Special (Pre-Recorded), Scripted Variety Series (which has different qualifying requirements this year) and Directing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.Overall, more than half the Emmys’ 120 categories had fewer entries than they did last year, while only 30 had more entries. But in most cases, the change in the number of entries was not enough to trigger a change in the number of nominees.(Note: While the Emmy rules set the number of nominees by the number of contenders, several categories each year will end up with more or fewer nominees because of ties.)The result of this year’s submissions will make some of the comedy races even more competitive than they already were.

‘Nimona’ Review: Pink Hair, Punk Spirit and a Formula-Thrashing Story Set This Rebel Toon Apart

Peter Debruge Chief Film Critic Once upon a time, animated movies made it easy to tell the heroes apart from the villains. Now, the trend is for princesses to remain happily unmarried (“Frozen”), for kids to know better than their elders (“Encanto”) and for monsters to be revealed as misunderstood allies (“Luca”). For a while, those twists on the Disney fairy-tale formula felt surprising to audiences, aligning nicely with where the cultural conversation was headed. Through repetition, however, such enlightenment has become its own cliché. Enter Nimona, who brings a fresh dose of attitude to such inclusive messaging. She’s a monster, but doesn’t like to be called that. (And who can blame her?) Apparently the only one of her kind in a fictional kingdom where medieval customs and flying cars aren’t mutually exclusive, Nimona is capable of shape-shifting into practically any species — be it a shark, a rhinoceros or a ginormous dragon — though her hot pink hair/fur/skin makes it kind of hard to blend in. When she first appears in the rowdy Netflix animated feature that bears her name, Nimona is sporting a pixie-punk haircut, piercings and an insatiable desire to do maximum damage to the society that’s been demonizing her for roughly a millennium. She is not what anyone would call a good girl, and that makes her a far more interesting character than practically any princess.

Amazon Freevee’s ‘Jury Duty’ Plans to Pass Out Tacos to Real-Life L.A. County Jurors This Week (EXCLUSIVE)

Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large America’s most famous juror is hitting the courtrooms to feed a few more Southern California citizens doing their civic duty. Ronald Gladden, the unsuspecting real-life star of Amazon Freevee’s “Jury Duty,” will join some of the show’s cast members to had out tacos this week near various Los Angeles County courthouses. This week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, “Jury Duty” will be handing out free tacos to jurors (and well, whomever shows up at the truck) in Beverly Hills, Studio City and Venice. The taco truck Emmy FYC stunt is inspired by a scene in the show’s first episode, “Voir Dire,” when James Marsden buys tacos for the jurors “in lieu of selfies.”
