A group of men were reportedly chased down a residential street before shots were fired at a car.
Police were called to a report that a group of three or four men all dressed in black, were being chased by a car in Kirkby, Merseyside, at around 8.50pm on Friday, July 14.
The men ran onto a grassed area and reportedly fired shots towards the car, before fleeing the area on foot and the car was driven away.
At around 9.30pm, it was further reported that two males had exited a car on Rock Lane, in Melling, and discharged items in a field. There are no reported injuries, according to police.
Officers are currently carrying out door-to-door enquiries and appealing for CCTV in a bid to identify the offenders. Cordons remained in place on neighbouring streets on Saturday, July 15, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Chief Inspector Daniel Murphy said: “The investigation is still in the early stages and we are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
“While no injuries have been reported, discharging a firearm is extremely reckless and dangerous. I would like to reassure the local community that we are working to find those responsible and bring them to justice.
“We have a zero-tolerance approach to any person involved in the use of, possession of, and storage of firearms, and we will relentlessly pursue anyone involved in this type of awful criminality.
“We are committed to taking weapons off our streets and, rest assured, if you tell us about any suspected possession or offences we will take action.
“We pro-actively investigate serious organised crime in Merseyside, including the use of guns and the supply and distribution of drugs.
“We will always take immediate action to incidents involving guns and we are actively working
