Manchester’s most abusive restaurant Karen’s Diner is safe from closure, its owners have said, after some of the brand’s original restaurants in Australia went into liquidation. The first Karen’s Diners were in Aussie cities including Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.
They soon gained social media traction around the world for the restaurant’s purposely rude service. However, last month it abruptly closed branches in Surfers Paradise, Perth and Melbourne, though the Adelaide, Brisbane and Sydney restaurants have remained open.
A spokesperson for the brand said in a statement to the M.E.N that ‘a few of the pop up Karens in Australia have been placed into voluntary liquidation’, but stressed that the UK branches are safe. As well as Manchester, there are branches in Liverpool, Sheffield, Birmingham and Barnet in North London.

“The company managing these 'pop-ups’ is just one of nine subsidiaries within the Viral Ventures Holdings Group in Australia,” the statement went on. “We understand that these short term leases were due to expire and poor management within this company led to this inevitable conclusion.
“We accept that Karen haters and Zelus [sic] worshippers will look to jump on an opportunity to question the longevity of dinings most outrageous brand. They will be disappointed.
“The principle group in Australia continues to be rude to all in Sydney's capital city and the never ending demand globally is ensuring that growth worldwide continues.”
