If you are a fan of Grand Designs, you'll know that not only does the show provide inspiration for your building, renovation and interior design projects, but there are some rather emotional stories behind the property transformations. In a recent episode of the Channel 4 programme, Danny created a dream home for himself and his three children.
The dad-of-three said he wanted to give his kids 'the childhood he never had', and was left in tears on the TV show after presenter Kevin McCloud's reaction to his beautiful, timber-clad four-bed home set amongst the trees- which he self-built on a tight budget.
Danny sold his detached bungalow but kept a substantial slice of the end of the plot to build his own abode for himself and his three children, reports WalesOnline. Danny wanted to create a modern, eco-friendly, yet reasonably priced home in the woods at the end of the garden and use the proceeds from the bungalow sale to pay for it.

He had a budget of £300,000 for the whole project, but he didn't need to splash out on purchasing any land. The extra bonus of the parcel of land he kept for his first ever self-build surrounded by silver birch trees was that it came with a beautiful pond that the previous owner of the bungalow constructed.
Danny had a huge motivator to make his dream of the house amongst the trees a reality; and that was to give his children a memorable childhood whilst connecting them to nature - something that he felt he missed out on. The dad revealed that his mother and father split when he was three and he didn't really have a relationship with him after that.
