Good Morning Britain viewers woke up to a "ray of sunshine" this morning (September 16) when a familiar soap star stood in for the usual weather presenter, Laura Tobin. Des Coleman hosted today's weather forecast to the delight of viewers who took to Twitter to praise him as a presenter.The popular weatherman is of course familiar to viewers having had career as an actor, even landing a role in EastEnders playing Lenny Wallace from 1996 to 1999. After leaving Albert Square, Des went on to appear in Casualty, The Bill and even appeared in the West End before training with the Met Office and moving into weather presenting.
Today he replaced Laura Tobin, 40, at the weather wall and as a firm favourite with viewers has also previously stood in for the GMB weather presenter Alex Beresford. One viewer wrote: "Yay, Des is back" while another added: "Love seeing our Des on GMB." A third said: "People think they're cool and then see @DESCOLEMAN doing the weather and realise what cool really is." Others remarked on how well the star has aged, with one even posting: "Bloody hell, Des is 60." Des's career in weather started at the BBC in 2007 training with the Met Office. In his Twitter bio he describes himself as "Former welder & West End performer.
Ex-Eastender! Previous BBC & current ITV weather presenter. Event host and vocalist". He joined the ITV weather team in 2016 and regularly fronts forecasts for Central, the broadcaster's Midlands operation.
