Tom Malone Jr has opened up about his brother Shaun's terrifying health battle, which saw him undergo numerous brain surgeries. Appearing on the Power of the Ordinary podcast, the former Gogglebox star, 30, explained: "My younger brother got seriously ill, was in hospital, in a coma for a while.
"When he was 15, he got sinusitis, just like a cold that got infected. He must have had a tear because it affected all his brain fluid." Recalling how he had gone to dance training only to later be told that his brother had had a seizure and been hospitalised, he continued: "Didn’t realise that as I’ve gone to training, he’s started to have a seizure in the back of the car.
He’s gone to the hospital, they’ve put him in a drug induced coma. "Give him a bunch of brain surgeries and told my mum and dad he had a one in ten chance of survival.
They had to keep a part of his skull out so they could keep doing brain surgeries.
He was covered in tubes." After waking home from his coma, Shaun was completely paralysed on his left hand side and had to learn to walk again.
Tom reflected on this time, adding that his brother was the most "inspirational person" in his life. Back in 2016, Tom and Shaun's mum Julie also opened up about the terrifying time, telling The Mirror: "He'd just come back from a sleep over with his friends and complained of having a headache.
I thought he'd just been up late with his pals. "But within hours he'd started throwing up and I took him to an out of hours doctor who diagnosed him with sinusitis and gave him an anti-sickness injection." In the years since shooting to fame on Gogglebox, Tom and Shaun have been incredibly open about their lives to their fans, with Shaun previously opening up about his mental health
