A 15-year-old boy was left with catastrophic brain injuries after being struck by a speeding police car, a court has heard.
Greater Manchester Police constable Sarah De Meulemeester is alleged to have been driving on the wrong side of the road in excess of the speed limit when she collided with Khia Whitehead in Stockport.
The youngster was left in a persistent vegetative state following the smash on Boxing Day, 2020.

He has since improved but “his injuries continue to severely impair his cognitive physical and behavioural functions, such that he will require 24-hour specialist nursing care and specialist therapy for the rest of his life,” prosecutor Jonathan Sandiford KC told Liverpool Crown Court.
PC De Meulemeester, 26, is on trial accused of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. She denies the charge.
Opening the prosecution case, Mr Sandiford told the jury that the incident happened at about 9.30pm on a dark, rainy night on Garners Lane, Adswood.
The defendant was only a basic police driver, which meant she could only drive in accordance with the Highway Code and was not authorised to use police exemptions such as contravening keep left signs and speeding, he said.
Her car was one of three police cars deployed that evening following a 999 call that a son was being violent towards his mum, the court heard. After they set off to the Grade I incident, further information was received that he had a knife.
