Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock has weighed in on the idea of the punk band doing an ‘ABBA Voyage’ style hologram show with late member Sid Vicious.Matlock said in a recent interview with The Mirror that he thinks that the concept of hologram shows can’t live up to the real thing. “There’s nothing better than a band playing with passion, vim and vigour in front of a live audience – in tune, with a couple of beers inside them, or a coffee, going for it,” he said.He continued: “If they can dig up some 3D imagery of Sid at this stage, that would be an achievement in itself.”Sid Vicious passed away from a drug overdose in 1979 at the age of 21.In another interview with PA, Matlock said he feels punk music can be a “small brick in the wall of change” during politically turbulent times.“In England back then there was a lot going on and there’s a direct parallel to what’s going on now,” he explained.
“I’ve just put a [song] out, it’s called ‘Head On A Stick’ and that’s my equivalent of ‘Anarchy In The UK’. There’s a lot of wrong going on and people should be held to account.“So I think we’ve come full circle, but you need some younger kids to do it.
I don’t mean they’re not doing it but I’m older, I can’t keep my finger on the pulse of everything, always.”He continued: “Punk is synonymous with being a bit more actionary and a bit more reading between the lines and not being too curtailed. That’s what I love about punk, regardless of what it sounds like, it’s the idea.
It’s a small brick in the wall of change, a little stepping stone.”Glen Matlock will be playing live with Blondie at Iggy Pop‘s ‘Dog Day Afternoon’ event at London’s Crystal Palace on July 1. Buzzcocks and Lambrini Girls have also recently been added to the bill.

CNN is zeroing in on Gayle King and Charles Barkley to host a weekly primetime show for the network, as chairman and CEO Chris Licht aims to revitalize the ratings-challenged nighttime lineup.

Series Mania, which wraps on Friday, looks like it’s succeeded in solidifying its place as Europe’s premier TV festival. The fest’s main competition was one of its strongest yet, and attendance at the industry-facing Series Mania Forum reached an all-time record of 3,800 delegates. Yet even Series Mania couldn’t escape the big-picture headwinds such as strikes and protests around France’s pension reform, nor the wider market turbulence as global streamers curb content investment around the world. Read on for Variety’s top takeaways:
Joe Otterson TV Reporter The Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid series in the works at Amazon has found its showrunners. Variety has learned that Alex Metcalf has boarded the show, currently titled “Butch & Sundance,” as showrunner and executive producer. Series creators Kaz Firpo and Ryan Firpo will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers alongside Metcalf. The Firpos most recently wrote the screenplay for the Marvel film “Eternals.” Amazon has ordered the show straight-to-series. The show was first reported as being in development in September, with Regé-Jean Page attached to play Cassidy and Glen Powell playing Sundance. At that time, it was reported that deals for the show were not yet closed and discussions were ongoing.
As Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 barrels the Marvel Studios’ franchise toward its conclusion, Karen Gillan, stopping in Deadline’s SXSW studio provided a glimpse as to how life is shaping up for Thanos’ adopted daughter and Gamora’s adopted sister, Nebula, in the threequel.
Lisa Steen's odd-couple comedy/drama is slight but sweet, with yet another winning turn by "Guardians of the Galaxy" co-star Gillan.
While Andrea Riseborough’s shock Oscar nomination for the SXSW 2022 sleeper To Leslie is still being processed, it’s too early to see whether it will have any effect on anything other than awards-season process. It would be nice, however, to think that it could also make it just that little bit harder for the success of smaller, more personal movies to be measured by box office returns alone (how many news stories made a point of deriding To Leslie’s $32,000 take?). Late Bloomers doesn’t have that film’s dramatic intensity, and is way more schematic in its plotting, but Lisa Steen’s debut feature is still an intimate, defiantly female-fronted indie, showcasing an engaging and refreshingly vanity-free performance from Karen Gillan, a talented Scottish actress whose career to date is still something of a work in progress.
Last year, as the industry was looking to lift itself out the pandemic’s purgatory at the box office, SXSW lit the wick on A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once, which wound up dynamiting the 18-34 hipster moviegoer set in what became the highest-grossing indie film of 2022, the best ever for the New York-based distributor, and now a potential Oscar Best Picture winner.
This year, instead of hiring a movie industry stalwart like recent Oscar show producers Steven Soderbergh and Will Packer who separately oversaw Academy Awards broadcasts over the past couple of years that were, shall we say, memorable for all the wrong reasons, the Academy has turned to awards show and live TV veterans Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner and gone for experience rather than take a chance on someone who is not known for putting together a massive television production for Hollywood’s biggest night of the year. In going the safer route AMPAS returned to the days of Gil Cates who reliably produced 14 Oscar shows and could be counted on to try new things, but also uphold tradition.
Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney look like they're ready for summer. Ditto for their upcoming rom-com film! The and stars were spotted flaunting their super toned bods Wednesday in Sydney, Australia, where they were filming scenes for, according to, an untitled R-rated romantic comedy directed by Will Gluck. In the scenes, Powell and Sweeney are aboard a sailing boat looking quite close and happy.

Glen Powell has clearly been spending a lot of time in the gym, as we can see from these hot new shirtless photos!
EXCLUSIVE: After launching the first original court show on streaming with Judy Justice on Amazon Freevee, Judy Sheindlin could make history again with the first streaming show to sell in broadcast syndication. Former CBS executive Scott Koondel’s Sox Entertainment, which distributes Judy Justice, is actively exploring selling the show’s library — approximate 260 episodes — to TV stations for fall 2023 or fall 2024, sources tell Deadline. Additionally, cable syndication also is a possibility, I hear.
Nick Vivarelli International Correspondent Italian star author Robert Saviano, whose mob exposé “Gomorrah” spawned both Matteo Garrone’s eponymous prizewinning movie and the groundbreaking crime series that plays stateside on HBO, is making his directorial debut. Saviano will direct “I’m Still Alive,” an animation adaptation of his graphic novel illustrated by Israeli artist Asaf Hanuka (“Waltz With Bashir”). “Still Alive” examines the anti-mob activist’s life under armed guard since being forced to live with police protection shortly after 2006 when Saviano’s account of the inner workings of the Neapolitan Camorra crime syndicate was published.
