Giovanni Pernice is said to be unsure of what this year entails when it comes to his Strictly Come Dancing career, as decision-making has reportedly been put on hold while the BBC show's boss is on maternity leave.
The professional dancer, 33, has been a fixture on the show since 2015, but hit headlines last year after being paired with Amanda Abbington, who claimed to have suffered post-traumatic stress disorder from appearing on the programme, with reports that things were frosty within the pairing. Sharing that Giovanni would usually know by this time if he is returning to the show, a source told MailOnline that everything is slightly slower this year, leaving him on edge.
They said: "There’s a bit of chaos surrounding all this year’s show.
Usually, there would be a decision made on the professional dancers by now but because the boss is off, and she is held in such high regard, everything has been put on hold. "No decisions would be made without her and it isn’t really okay to expect someone on maternity leave to get involved in work matters when they are off.
For Giovanni, it means he has to wait to see his fate.
The BBC have backed him on this, they have had no complaint from Amanda and it has all become rather strange." They added that Giovanni 'of course' wants to return to the show for what will be his ninth year. In 2021, he won the show alongside actress Rose Ayling-Ellis and has since kept a close friendship with her.
However, he has been dubbed a 'strict' coach when it comes to dancing through the years. And while Amanda hasn't publicly spoke of Giovanni, there have been numerous reports that the pair butted heads.
