Cooking may feel like a chore for many, but simple recipes that bring out excellent results can really develop your love for it once again.
You could give this chicken pie recipe a try, taken from The Hairy Bikers: Mums Know Best series, which celebrates traditional British recipes that have been passed down through many families generations.
The description of the dish reads: "A traditional chicken pie is classic comfort food and this fuss-free recipe is one you'll want to make again and again. It's worth making your own pastry if you can because the ready-made stuff just doesn't match up to the buttery loveliness of homemade."
This chicken pie recipe takes up to two hours to cook, and a similar time to prepare, reports the Express. For those who want to shorten the prep time, they can use ready-made pastry.
Give the recipe a go below.
For the filling:
For the pastry:
For the sauce:
When the chicken is cool enough to handle, cut the meat into chunks and discard the skin and bones.
Make the sauce by removing the cloves from the onion and place it into a food processor with the stock. Blend until this is smooth, then add the milk and set aside.
Melt the butter into a pan and stir in the flour. Cook this for a minute over medium heat, and gradually add the stock and milk, then bring to a boil, stirring continuously.
Season this after simmering it for four to five minutes, then fold the meat gently into the sauce. Set the mixture aside to cool completely before moving on.
Preheat your oven to 220C, and roll out two-thirds of the pastry and line a pie plate with it, before adding the cooled chicken mixture.
Roll out the remaining pastry to make a lid for the pie, brush the edge with beaten egg and pinch the edges together to seal.

No matter where you look right now, bows are everywhere. They’re tied in ponytails, embellished onto socks and even hanging from knitwear, which proves one thing – they’re the must-have accessory of 2024. EXCLUSIVE. When the alternative book of film trivia is written, a page will be dedicated to the influence of Leonard Nimoy’s paranormal-themed late-’70s TV show In Search of… on director siblings. It was here that Albert and Allen Hughes first heard about Britain’s most notorious serial killer, Jack the Ripper, beginning an obsession with Victorian London that resulted in their 2001 horror-drama From Hell. And for David and Nathan Zellner, the cultural impact was very similar. “We loved that show,” recalls David. “As kids, there wasn’t much out there, that we were exposed to, that covered those sorts of things. They’d cover the Loch Ness monster, everything. I remember one about plants, wondering if they were able to think and what kind of music they’d like to listen to. They got really obscure with some of the subjects, but we loved that show. We loved the vibe of it. And that’s where we first learned about Bigfoot…”

Jeffrey Wright, star of Cord Jefferson’s provocative debut feature American Fiction, says he felt a personal affinity with his character Thelonious ‘Monk’ Ellison in the film, in part because of the challenges Monk experiences with regard to family issues.
