Fugitive Nicholas Rossi was caught setting up a fake social media post to try and get off with a sexual assault conviction.
A police forensics expert has revealed how he uncovered a devious plan by the American sex offender which could have convinced a court that his victim made up allegations.
The details are revealed in a new documentary set to be aired on the bizarre story of Rossi who fled to the UK then faked his own death in the US while being hunted for rape charges.
It also shows the scammer caked in makeup to hide his identifying scars from the cameras.
He ended up in Scotland before going through a lengthy extradition hearing in which he claimed he was an innocent Irishman called “Arthur Knight”.
In The Faking Dead: Arthur Knight Story, to be broadcast on Warner Bros’ Discovery+ streaming service, digital forensic expert Doug Roderick explains how he was brought in by police in Dayton, Ohio to look at a Myspace social media post.
Rossi had used it to force a retrial in his conviction for sexually assaulting Mary Grebinski at Dayton Community College in 2008 where they were both students.
Four years later he presented a rambling Myspace post to court which he claimed was Mary, 33, messaging a boyfriend while drunk to admit that she’d lied about the sexual assault so he wouldn’t think she was cheating even though Rossi was “cute”.
But forensics expert Doug said: “We decided to get a calendar out from the year this post had supposedly been made and I saw that the day of the week in the post didn’t match what the calendar said.
“That’s something that can’t change.
“So with that, I told them (the police) that this is most likely faked.”
The judge agreed with Doug’s findings and dismissed Rossi’s attempt to have his conviction
