Aviva Studios, Manchester’s landmark new cultural venue and home of Factory International, officially opens its doors on Wednesday, October 18 with ‘Free Your Mind’, a large-scale and immersive show based on the classic sci-fi film The Matrix.
It’s been created by a dream team of world-class creatives and features a cast of over 100 local people from across Greater Manchester alongside professional dancers.
Prepare to be propelled on a thrilling journey through The Matrix and experience some of the film’s most iconic scenes through hip-hop dance combined with incredible sets and visual effects, provoking visions of an alternate future.
Made especially for Manchester, an iconic team of creative forces is bringing the show to life.
With choreography by Kenrick ‘H20’ Sandy MBE and music from Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante MBE (both co-founders and artistic directors of the award-winning Boy Blue); mind-blowing staging by world-renowned designer Es Devlin, costumes by leading fashion designer Gareth Pugh and words by the acclaimed writer Sabrina Mahfouz – all directed by Manchester’s own Danny Boyle.
Alongside the production, there will be lots of free events throughout the autumn, including An Atlas of Es Devlin – an immersive installation from the extraordinary set designer (she’s created some of the most mind-blowing sets, including Beyonce’s world tours), which will take over the warehouse space at Aviva Studios and can be visited for free from October 25.
Free Your Mind is at Aviva Studios, Water Street, and opens for previews on Friday, October 13, and runs until Sunday, November 5.
