Steven J. Horowitz Senior Music Writer FKA Twigs is facing censorship over her appearance in a Calvin Klein advertisement in the United Kingdom.
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned an ad featuring the singer wearing a denim shirt wrapped around her and exposing the right side of her body. The organization claimed that the “image’s composition placed viewers’ focus on the model’s body rather than on the clothing being advertised,” and that her “physical features” had “presented her as a stereotypical sexual object.” “We therefore concluded the ad was irresponsible and likely to cause serious offense,” they added.
The ad’s banning comes after only two people complained that the images were “overly sexualized” and objectified women. Additional complaints were lobbed at Kendall Jenner, who appeared in the same campaign that debuted last March, though the ASA didn’t find the same issue as it had with Twigs.
“Doing [this campaign] means I can be who I am—A strong woman. That isn’t going to go in and out of fashion,” said Twigs to Rolling Stone at the time of the campaign’s launch.
“When I’m in my 60s and have grandchildren, I can show them these pictures and say, ‘Your grandmother was strong.’” Calvin Klein defended the Twigs ad in a statement, claiming her poses were “natural and neutral.” “The images were not vulgar and were of two confident and empowered women who had chosen to identify with the Calvin Klein brand, and the ads contained a progressive and enlightened message.” Some have already pointed the double standard being applied to Twigs, particularly after Calvin Klein recently rolled out its shirtless campaign with actor Jeremy Allen White. Twigs is yet to comment on the banning.

blind ambition.“The Bear” star Jeremy Allen White bared it all this month for his racy and utterly titillating Calvin Klein underwear campaign and the internet collectively swooned over the 32-year-old heartthrob’s rippling pectorals.Unfortunately, individuals who are visually impaired have been unable to properly appreciate all that White has to offer in his tighty whities until now. Thanks to the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), blind and partially sighted people have the opportunity to enjoy White’s ‘thirst trap’ too. RNIB created alt text, which accompanies images online and on social media platforms to help describe content and the content of images for those who may be unable to see them, for two of White’s sexiest photos, which were shot in New York City.“We’ve written image descriptions to help blind and partially sighted people decide which thirst trap is their favorite,” @RNIB wrote on X this week, along with two photos of the actor who won his second Golden Globe, for best performance by a male actor in a television series — musical or comedy, on Sunday.
FKA Twigs is speaking out about her Calvin Klein ad being pulled in the UK!
’s recent Calvin Klein ad, thereby unequivocally ensuring its viral proliferation across the internet. Two images of Kendall Jenner, including the one above, were allowed to remain in circulation. In response to complaints, chief executive Guy Parker and his band of merry mad men determined that the Mert + Marcus shot presented Twigs as “a stereotypical sexual object,” calling the image “likely to cause serious offense,” while deciding that two (objectively more provocative?) photos of from the same campaign were “unlikely to be seen as irresponsible." Naturally, the 32 people left on Twitter—which I categorically refuse to call X—had some thoughts. (Parker’s bio describes him as “responsible for executing the ASA’s strategy to have More Impact Online,” which… mission accomplished?)You can find here, which reads a little like it was written by the council in The Scarlet Letter with additional input from Andrew Tate.
