Rick Astley performed at the Manchester venue Co-Op Live in Manchester over the weekend.The star played as part of a test event on Saturday (April 20) ahead of the official opening of the 23,500 capacity venue tomorrow (April 23).The new venue, which is the UK’s largest indoor arena, is located opposite Manchester’s Etihad Stadium, and features a “unique bowl design” that will bring fans “closer to the artist than at other arenas of equivalent size”, according to a spokesperson.Ahead of Astley’s performance, bosses at the venue apologised after some tickets were axed ahead of the show in order to reduce the capacity to 11,000.“To enable us to test the spaces effectively, we have made the difficult decision to reduce overall capacity for today’s test event,” a Co-op Live spokesman told BBC News.Tickets have instead been offered The Black Keys on April 27 “as a gesture of our appreciation”, the spokesman added.The show saw Astley perform a host of his classic hits including ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ along with Sam Fender, Harry Styles and AC/DC covers.

A man has been rescued from a car that flipped onto its side after a dramatic crash in Stockport.
Emergency services were scrambled to the scene of a two car smash in Cheadle this afternoon, April 3.
Two fire engines and a technical response unit rushed to the scene on Stockport Road just before 1.20pm this afternoon. Firefighters had to rescue one man from a car which was on its side, according to Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.

The man was then taken into the care of paramedics from North West Ambulance Service (NWAS). The condition of the man is not yet known.
One eye witness reported seeing a car overturned on its side opposite Bullocks Coaches at around 2pm with several people crowded around it.
Pictures from the scene showed fire crews, police and an ambulance on Stockport Road.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At just before 1.20pm today (Wednesday, April 3) two fire engines from Cheadle and Stockport fire stations plus the technical response unit from Ashton fire station attended a crash involving two cars on Stockport Road, Cheadle.
“Firefighters used specialist equipment to rescue one man from a car which was on its side before transferring him to the care of colleagues from North West Ambulance Service. Crews were in attendance for around one hour.”
NWAS and GMP have been approached for comment.
