The Color Purple is coming!
Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg have reunited to revive the film into a movie musical.
Warner Bros. released the first trailer of the new adaptation on Monday (May 22), directed by Blitz Bazawule.
The movie is set to premiere in North America on December 25, and internationally beginning January 18, 2024, via Variety.

Fantasia Barrino reprises her Broadway role as Celie, as well as Danielle Brooks as Sofia, who earned a Tony nomination for her performance in the 2016 Broadway revival.
Taraji P. Henson is Shug Avery, Colman Domingo stars as Mister, H.E.R. is Squeak, Halle Bailey plays Young Nettie, Corey Hawkins stars as Harpo and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor plays Mama.
“The reason this moment is so important is as long there is a need for self-discovery, self-empowerment, as long as there is a need for victory in someone’s life as long, as there is a need for people to know what it feels like to be loved up and to be made full and hold to somebody else’s love, there will be a need for The Color Purple,” Oprah said.
