‘Everything Everywhere’ Directors Dan Kwan & Daniel Scheinert Thank Michelle Yeoh, “Craziest Studio” A24 As They Land Best Theatrical Feature – DGA Awards

Considering the breathless ease of “Everything Everywhere All At Once’s” award season so far, it’s sort of remarkable how many categories are up for grabs when the Academy Awards begin on Sunday evening. Oscar’s top prize is pretty much all locked up and should reward A24 with their second Best Picture win in less than 12 years of existence.

“Everything Everywhere All at Once” swept all the major guild awards, the first time that grand slam had happened in a decade and only the fifth time in history, the suspense seemed to drain out of the 95th Academy Awards. After all, how suspenseful can it be if everything goes to “Everything?” But it’d be a mistake to think that Sunday’s show won’t be a nail-biter in many ways.

Monday’s “The Late Show” treated viewers to a delightful surprise, courtesy of Daniels, the Oscar-nominated directors of “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” who whipped up a delightful and absolutely bonkers opening credits sequence for the show that we kind of wish could be used forever.The bit began when the show ditched the usual cold open gag for a clip in which host Stephen Colbert explained that his dog had eaten the show’s normal opening credits. (Yes, the scene cuts to the dog, who is eating out of a bowl labeled “opening credits” next to his normal food bowl.)Then came Daniels — the professional name used by directing partners Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert — to unveil their replacement opening credits sequence.

SANTA MONICA – The festivities outside the 2023 Film Independent Spirit Awards were, well, festive. Last year was the event’s in-person return after a 2021 virtual ceremony and 12 months later there seemed to be significantly more people enjoying the annual opportunity for film industry schmoozing and, um, day drinking.

“Everything Everywhere All At Once” continued its awards sweep at the Film Independent Spirit Awards on its path to the Oscars next weekend. The multiverse-hopping adventure collected awards for best picture, directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, actors Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan and Stephanie Hsu, screenplay and editing.

The 38th Independent Spirit Awards were held today on the famous Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, California, and it was highlighted by the continued award season dominance for “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” The A24 multiverse comedy-drama took home the top prize for Best Feature, Best Director and Best Screenplay for Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert, Best Editing, Best Lead Performance for Michelle Yeoh, Best Supporting Performance for Ke Huy Quan, and Best Breakthrough Performance for Stephanie Hsu.

They’ve conquered the top prizes at the PGAs, DGAs and SAG Awards and two Golden Globes and this afternoon, A24’s highest grossing movie of all-time and 11x Oscar nominated Everything Everywhere All at Once tookseven out of its eight Film Independent Spirit Award noms as wins, including Best Picture. The only nom the movie didn’t get as an award was Jamie Lee Curtis who was competing against Key Huy Quan in Best Supporting Performance.

The Film Independent Spirit Awards are back, and this year, like the Academy Awards, it’s going to be an “Everything Everywhere All At Once” afternoon. The biggest independent release of 2022 ($73 million domestic), the A24 production is absolutely going to dominate the ceremony.

Michelle Yeoh never imagined a path for herself that would lead to her mind-bending performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once, the film that has made her Oscar’s first Best Actress nominee openly of Southeast Asian descent and that has earned her SAG’s Best Actress prize, among other accolades. It was a historic night Sunday for Michelle Yeoh and her Everywhere Everything All At Once co-star Ke Huy Quan at the SAG Awards. Yeoh became the first Asian Best Actress Film winner in SAG history for her portrayal of Evelyn Wang, while Quan became the first Asian Best Supporting Actor Film winner for portraying Waymond Wang.

Thanks to “Everything Everywhere All At Once’s” massive showing throughout the night (the multiverse movie took home four wins at the 2023 SAG Awards ceremony) and Brendan Fraser’s victory for “The Whale.” Thus making this the first time in history that a studio has captured every major film prize (minus the stunts award that went to “Top Gun: Maverick”). This colossal night for A24 feature “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, started early with Jamie Lee Curtis (who won for actress in a supporting role). By also winning Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, it become the only film to ever win four Screen Actors Guild awards.The SAG triumph was a sweet end to an eventful weekend for “Everything Everywhere,” which also picked up the top prize at the Producers Guild Awards on Saturday.

But most importantly we never give up. I thank you… This is not just for me, this is for every little girl who looks like me.” The actress then paused, turning away from the podium to compose herself but eventually relenting with an excited litany of curses screaming “shit” and “fuck” to an elated crowd. “Thank you for giving me seat at the table and tonight you’ve shown us that it is possible,” she said. “I’m grateful and my mom will be eternally grateful to all of you.”
