Alan Arkin Remembered: ‘The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming’ Director Norman Jewison on His ‘Brilliantly Funny’ Friend

Brent Lang Executive Editor Alan Arkin etched many indelible performances over his long career in movies. From heroin-snorting grandfathers (“Little Miss Sunshine”) to ornery movie producers (“Argo”) to harried dentists (“The In-Laws”), Arkin, who died on June 29 at the age of 89, played an extraordinary range of roles with great gusto. But it’s fair to say that none of it would have been possible were it not for 1966’s “The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming,” a Cold War comedy that marked Arkin’s first major screen role. It’s the film that earned him the first of four Oscar nominations (he’d win for 2006’s “Little Miss Sunshine”) and a part that launched his career as a shape-shifting character actor.

Pete Davidson Jokes He and Colin Jost Are 'In the Hole' With Their Ferry, Shares 5-Year Business Plan

Pete Davidson may not have thought it through when he decided to join Colin Jost in buying a massive ferry, but more than a year after the purchase the comedian's got plans in motion, and he admits it's because he's feeling the pressure! While talking to Seth Meyers on his  podcast, the 29-year-old comedian for the first time shared some specifics when it comes to what he and Jost plan to do with the Staten Island Ferry they invested in back in January 2022 (after he and Jost got "very stoned").«So, we just got all the plans built,» Davidson said. «We had them do one of those computer generated, you know, show-you-what-it-could-be type of thing. And now we're out to a few people and it seems like it's all going well, but it's definitely five years away.»The goal, Davidson said, is to transform the ferry into a floating party vessel.«We wanna be able to dock it from April to September, maybe October, in New York and it will be like a restaurant.

As ‘The Flash’ Visual Effects Baffle Viewers, the Film’s Director Says the VFX Are ‘Intended’ to ‘Look a Little Weird to You’

Zack Sharf Digital News Director SPOILER ALERT: This story contains minor spoilers from “The Flash,” now playing in theaters nationwide. Reviews for Warner Bros.’ long-in-the-works “The Flash” movie have been largely favorable to mixed, but most critics agree the film is the latest comic book tentpole to suffer from unappealing visual effects. Leaked scenes on social media have also led to fan bafflement over the film’s VFX, especially an opening sequence in which Ezra Miller’s superhero speeds to Gotham City to save a bunch of falling babies from a collapsing hospital. To say the VFX babies in “The Flash” opening scene are rendered in a hugely un-human way would be an understatement. The same goes for all of the human characters who appear during the movie’s many time travel sequences. Suffice to say, none of them look human at all.
