Elisabeth Moss is killing it right now, and as we detailed in our interview with the actress last week about her new Apple TV+ series “Shining Girls,” she is becoming a major triple threat, evolving from an actor who is instrumental in calling the shot, producing and directing nearly everything she appears in. Just like Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale,” of which Moss is the lead and now a producer and one of the directors, on “Shining Girls”—an ambitious series about an assault victim, a time-traveling serial killer, and a journalistic procedural to catch the killer—she took on a similar role on a (read our review here).

Rege-Jean Page shows off his killer smile on the blue carpet at the premiere of Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder held at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square on Tuesday (July 5) in London, England.
“Thor: Love and Thunder,” out on July 8.However, it wasn’t the easiest task for the “Black Swan” star, who discussed with Vogue Australia how hard it was to come back to set after a decade away. While it was “incredible” and “surreal” to return to the Marvel world, Portman noted that she felt like she had to “figure out how to fit in” again.“It’s so strange when something is very familiar but also, you’re kind of the new kid,” the “Black Swan” star said. Her costars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, as well as director Taika Waititi, had previously worked together on the third film, “Thor: Ragnarok” in 2017.“Because Chris and Tessa and Taika had worked together on ‘Ragnarok,’ and so successfully and so it was like they were all reuniting and I was this newbie in there trying to figure out how to fit in,” she explained. The Israeli-born filmmaker went on, “But also they’re just the nicest people, and also I know Chris and Tessa so well from previous work together, and also I had done ‘Thor’ movies twice before.”Portman appeared in both “Thor” and “Thor: The Dark World.” She also collaborated with Thompson, 38, on the 2018 drama “Annihilation.”“So there was a lot of familiarity and comfort in that world too, but it was this weird mix of being the veteran and the newbie at the same time,” she said.
Director Taika Waititi is back in the Marvel business with Thor: Love and Thunder. There is a mix of horror, romance, and drama, but at its core is pure comedy that doesn’t always work but is good enough to entertain. Thor: Ragnarok saw a 180-degree image and personality change for the character and stands among the best of the franchise so far. The beauty of Ragnarok is its focused storytelling and poignant message, while Thunder is a little all over the place. But Waititi’s comedic timing, and talent for creating dynamic action scenes is too good to ignore, it’s missing crucial elements that would push the superhero movie from being good, to great.

The stars stepped out for the premiere of Thor: Love and Thunder!
For fans of Taika Waititi’s take on Thor in Thor: Ragnarok, the premiere of the writer-director’s latest MCU go-round, Thor: Love And Thunder, has been a long time coming. But it seems there may be yet more to come. At the Hollywood premiere on Thursday, its star, Chris Hemsworth said he hopes to continue the role for more films, especially if he can carry on working with Waititi.
Ready to release a Marvel movie (“Thor: Love & Thunder”), writing a “Star Wars” movie, acting in and overseeing HBO’s “Our Flag Means Death,” executive producing FX’s “What We Do In The Shadows,” and more that gets added all the time, Taika Waiti is hyper-busy. He’s so busy that he even directed a little indie movie that everyone has forgotten and has been sitting on the shelf for two years.
When Taika Waititi began working with David Jenkins on the HBO Max series “Our Flag Means Death,” he knew he’d eventually want to play one of the main characters. Hopeful that Waititi would eventually be down for it, Jenkins wrote the show’s version of the legendary pirate Blackbeard with the Oscar-winner in mind.
SNL. But for her upcoming role as (Jane Foster plus hammer plus powers) in Thor: Love and Thunder, she was asked for the first time in her career to add muscle to her frame, and the physical change affected her mentally as well.“On Black Swan, I was asked to get as small as possible,” Portman , reflecting on the role—a ballerina—that netted her an Oscar. “[For Thor], I was asked to get as big as possible.
Natalie Portman packed on so much muscle she could arm-wrestle Captain America. It’s that she’d never been asked to do it before.Throughout her 30-year career, Portman has grown accustomed to exploiting her lean five-foot-three frame, most memorably in her Oscar-winning performance as an obsessive, spindle-thin ballet dancer in 2010’s “Black Swan.” As the brilliant astrophysicist Jane Foster in 2011’s “Thor” and 2013’s “Thor: The Dark World,” she spends much of her screen time in varying states of dewy-eyed peril or with her head craned at a substantial angle to pine after Chris Hemsworth’s towering Asgardian warrior. When Portman returns as Jane on July 8 in director Taika Waititi’s “Thor: Love and Thunder,” however, the 41-year-old will not only be playing a superhero in her own right — the Mighty Thor, Jane’s persona once she comes into possession of the mystical hammer Mjolnir — but one who can stand toe-to-toe, and nearly eye-to-eye, with Hemsworth’s Thor.
Adam B. Vary Senior Entertainment WriterFor “Thor: Love and Thunder,” Natalie Portman is returning not only as Jane Foster — the brilliant astrophysicist and ex-girlfriend of Asgardian warrior Thor (Chris Hemsworth) — but as the Mighty Thor, Jane’s superhero persona when she comes into possession of the mystical hammer Mjolnir.Becoming a Marvel Studios hero meant Portman worked with a trainer for 10 months before and during shooting to build up her muscle mass in a way she’d never been asked to before.“I definitely got as big as I’ve ever been,” Portman explained for Variety‘s cover story.
Christian Bale has revealed that Kate Bush‘s music almost featured in Thor: Love and Thunder. The Oscar-winning actor, who plays villain Gorr the God Butcher in the upcoming sequel, told Total Film that director Taika Waititi had planned a Bush-inspired dance scene, but it was ultimately cut from the film.Opening up about the influences behind his menacing character, Bale said: “There’s obviously sort of a Nosferatu slight attitude. Taika and I wanted to do a whole dance, which we didn’t get to do, but we had all this sort of Kate Bush stuff that we worked at.“I think he just realised he was never going to be allowed to put that in the final film.
Kate Bush is having a major moment right now.
Chris Hemsworth cannot wait for Marvel fans to see “Thor: Love and Thunder“.
Chris Hemsworth cannot wait for Marvel fans to see .«This film is- how can I put it? It's one of the craziest things, if not the craziest thing, [director Taika Waititi] has ever made. I think it's the most insane thing I've been a part of,» Hemsworth told ET's Cassie DiLaura during a recent interview. «It's wacky, it's wild, it's fun, just like was, but we now have a beautiful love story at the center of it.»That's right. In addition to some «new armor and new outfits,» also reunites Hemsworth's titular God of Thunder with his Earth-bound love interest, Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman.
Kate Aurthur editorSterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi — the co-creators of “Reservation Dogs” — met in the mid-aughts, and though Harjo is from Oklahoma and Waititi grew up in New Zealand, they immediately bonded over their shared experiences as Indigenous filmmakers. As Waititi’s star rose, the two remained friends, but “I never talked to him about work,” Harjo said.
