Eastenders fans have noticed something different about the iconic Arches after the soap set had an expensive overhaul recently. Results of the BBC series’ £87 million set reconstruction are now being aired in new episodes and viewers were able to spot changes made to Ben Mitchell and Kheerat Panesar’s garage business straight away in the latest scenes. The front and interior of The Arches now appears more spacious as a huge wall of corrugated metal sheeting has been switched out for a wide cobbled alleyway, creating more options for filming opportunities.

A grassy patch has also been added beside the children’s play area along with steps, adding to the several modifications made to the Eastenders set viewers were able to point out that weren’t there before. “Did they knock the wall down next to the arches and move the park?! At least have the new set look like the old set! #EastEnders,” one watcher criticised on Twitter.
"Pretty sure there was a wall next to the Arches,” a second person wrote, while another added: “Well, the area in front of the Arches has certainly grown!" While some fans of the East End soap weren’t impressed with the new changes carried out in the overhaul of The Arches, others noted their appreciation for the establishment’s new look. “It makes sense to improve the Arches area, it's a frequent setting,” one viewer wrote. The Arches has been at the centre of many a major storyline on Eastenders over its 37-year run, with several bouts of violence and a murder having occurred there after Ronnie Mitchell killed bad guy Carl White in 2014.
